What Indian customs actually does — read this before you ship
Most Kuwait courier websites will happily take your money for a “gift parcel to India.” India banned that in 2019. Here is the real position, from the Indian government’s own documents.
DGFT Notification 35/2015-2020 prohibited import of goods as gifts through post or courier. CBIC Circular 4/2020 confirms it. Only life-saving medicines and Rakhi are excepted. The ₹5,000 gift allowance you will see quoted elsewhere no longer applies.
You can still send belongings to family. They clear as a personal import under heading 9804 — Chennai Customs’ published FAQ puts the effective rate at 53.60% of CIF value, payable by the consignee on arrival.
Aadhaar, PAN, passport or voter ID — any one showing identity and address. Relaxed KYC up to ₹50,000 CIF. Commercial consignments need the consignee’s IEC.
Satellite phones are banned without a DoT licence. Vehicles, alcohol, tobacco, licence-controlled goods and printed books are not eligible as personal courier imports.

How long does a parcel take from Kuwait to India? ▾
Air freight is about 10 days door to door. Express moves on the international express carrier network and follows that carrier's published transit time for your destination. We confirm the day count in writing with your quote before anything moves.
Can I send a gift from Kuwait to India? ▾
Not as a declared gift. India prohibited the import of goods as gifts through post or courier under DGFT Notification 35/2015-2020, confirmed in CBIC Circular 4/2020. The only exceptions are life-saving medicines and Rakhi. You can still send personal belongings or goods to a family member, but they are treated as a personal import and full customs duty applies on arrival. Anyone promising you a duty-free gift parcel to India is going to leave your box sitting in customs.
What duty will my consignee pay in India? ▾
Chennai Customs' published FAQ puts personal imports under tariff heading 9804 at 53.60% of CIF value. It is charged to the consignee on arrival. We tell you this before you ship rather than after, so there is no argument at the door.
Does my consignee in India need to give an ID number? ▾
Yes. Indian courier imports require KYC on the consignee — any one of Aadhaar, PAN, passport or voter ID that shows both identity and address. Relaxed KYC applies up to ₹50,000 CIF. If the shipment is commercial, the consignee needs an IEC (Importer Exporter Code). We collect this at booking so the parcel is not held on arrival.
What can't I send to India? ▾
Satellite phones are banned outright without a Department of Telecommunications licence and carry a detention risk. Also not eligible as personal imports by courier: motor vehicles, alcohol, tobacco products, goods needing an import licence, and printed books. Tell us what's in the box and we will check it against the current list before you pack.
Do you deliver to the door anywhere in India? ▾
Yes. Our agent on the ground handles final delivery to the residential or business address you give us, not to a depot for collection.
